Is a representative democracy really worthy of being called a democracy? A democracy is where the power belongs to the people, but do they actually have that much power, if they just choose which politician influences and manipulates them, and lets himself being influenced and manipulated, be it by corporate giants, his personal greed, ignorance or whatever? |
Surely, a representative democracy is already far better than the absolute monarchies we had in the past in Europe. But what if the representative democracy is just an intermediate stage between absolutism and direct democracy? Wouldn't it finally be time to move on to such a true democracy?
